Athens Regional Medical Center officially opened its new helipad on Wednesday morning, as crowds of hospital leadership, staff and members of the community gathered to witness the event. A crew from Air Life Georgia made the inaugural flight onto hospital grounds and Athens Regional President and CEO Dr. Charles Peck was on board as the helicopter as it made the first ever touchdown onto the new helipad.
Staff and members of the community had the opportunity to see the helicopter up close and meet the pilot and crew. Airline Georgia staff also trained members of the Athens Regional Emergency team in proper loading and unloading procedures. The hospital will officially begin accepting medical flights as soon as the full emergency staff is trained.
