Olayinka A. Akinpelu, MD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor at the GRU. She received her MD at Higher Medical Institute, Sofia, Bulgaria and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Meharry Medical College, Nashville, TN. After her residency, she served as Chief Resident for an additional year. In 2003, she completed her Master in Public Health with Major in Epidemiology at the Emory University, Rollins School of Public Health, Atlanta, Georgia. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine.
Dr. Akinpelu is a current Hospitalist at Athens Regional Health System. Previously she served as assistant professor and hospitalist with the Emory University, Division of Hospital Medicine.
Dr. Akinpelu has participated in numerous Hospital committees both during residency and also as a hospitalist.
Dr Akinpelu has won numerous awards during her carrier including: 2010 recipient of leadership award for her contribution as a chief resident from Meharry Medical College, 2010-2011 she was nominated as physician of the year at Emory Eastside Medical Center, Snellville, and 2013 recipient of the Emory’s Director’s award for outstanding service in Hospital Medicine . Her professional interests include healthcare quality and information technology.
